Haemoptysis is the medical term for coughing up blood. It can range from a few drops of blood to spitting up large amounts of blood. Haemoptysis is generally considered to be blood that originates from anywhere in the respiratory tract below the vocal cords. This includes the trachea, bronchi, or lungs.
