Sustainable design considers resource efficiency, prioritises lowering lifetime operational costs and minimising maintenance requirements. Generally motivated to benefit and protect the environment, while considering legislative requirements such as energy efficiency targets, policy and frameworks, this approach to design considers the adequate useability of spaces as well as the amenity. Interplay of daylight and the impact on energy consumption, water consumption, the level and cost of insulation, potential for thermal passive performance and adequate selection of double-glazing and façade product. Priority is to reduce a building or spaces impact on the environment, though reducing greenhouse gas emissions and potable water savings, while considering strategies to improve the health and wellbeing of users (occupants and visitors) of the space.
