Watch Jehanabad - of Love & War on SonyLIV
The class divide and caste politics are what ultimately drive the lovers apart, as their love is unable to overcome the prejudices and restrictions of their society. The "monster of the town" represents the rigid class system, which has its own set of rules and regulations that the lovers must follow to survive. It is the way that the makers chose to shape and position their characters that makes Jehanabad - Of Love & War such a wonderful film. It is said that there is a girl who is so liberated in her approach to life. There is not one time in her entire life that she hesitates even a little before talking about s*x in front of her conservative family. She challenges masculinity in a country obsessed with manliness. This is a powerful example of how women can challenge traditional gender roles in society. The character shows that women can be independent and outspoken and not feel ashamed of their beliefs. She stands as an example for other women to follow and proves that women can be just as capable and strong as men.
