Fungal acne is one such pretender, and it is a particularly cunning one. It is caused by a yeast called Malassezia furfur, which is normally present on the skin. Fungal acne is distinct from typical acne in that it lacks blackheads, pustules, and deeper, painful nodules and cysts.
