Iolite is the mineral cordierite gem. Its name has been derived from the Greek word 'Ios" which means violet since the colour of the stone is violet. This stone is unique since it has a unique bluish glitter in its appearance. The special mannerism of this Iolite gemstone is its exhibition of different colours when viewed at a particular angle and change of its positions, this phenomenon is described as pleochroism. This gemstone is a recent addition to the gems family since it has been named in 1912.
